You’ll know that Philip and Anna Meadway are passionate gardening enthusiasts even before you meet them. The extensive grounds of their red-bricked Georgian house are filled with plants and those carefully contrived spaces and contrasts that are the hallmark of the confident, creative gardener. When Philip says that he ‘bought Firgrove for the two yew trees’ he might have been exaggerating, for the house itself is elegance epitomised, especially the immaculate downstairs rooms. Recent refurbishment has taken Firgrove to an even higher level. The location is also superb. The house stands on a hillside above landscaped grounds, looking out through the trees to the smooth-flanked Clwydian Range of hills. The historic town of Ruthin is on the doorstep, while the North Wales coast, the Borderlands and Snowdonia are only a short drive away. Evening meals are by prior arrangement.
