Handsome, red-bricked Bach-y-Graig looks almost too good to be a farmhouse. But it’s just that, the hub of a 200-acre dairy farm in the verdant Vale of Clwyd. But then again, it’s no ordinary farmhouse. Grade II Bach-y-Graig has an exceptional historic pedigree. The original Bach-y-Graig, built in 1567 but now demolished, was reputedly Wales’s first brick-built house. The present house, built with renaissance and Dutch influences, grew from the original gatehouse. There’s history close by, too, in an ancient woodland accessed by a wildlife trail. You’ll discover more about Bach-y-Graig’s long and fascinating past – and receive a warm Welsh welcome – when you stay with Anwen and David Roberts. The way in which family photographs mingle with antiques sums up the homely, hospitable atmosphere they have created here. Deluxe self-catering is also available. The location is excellent for coast and country.
